A Career of Impact and Influence
Anahila’s experience as a former Member of Parliament for the New Zealand Labour Party saw her championing human rights, advocating for communities, and playing a pivotal role in legislative development. She was instrumental in the amendment of the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association constitution to ensure women’s representation and led successful initiatives like the Labour Pacific Caucus, which amplified the voices of the Pacific population across Aotearoa, New Zealand.
A Legacy of Service and Advocacy
Anahila’s career is also marked by her contributions to social services, where she managed multi-million-dollar budgets and led teams at Child, Youth & Family (now Oranga Tamariki). She played a key role in the development and implementation of the Investing in Children Programme, which transformed the way New Zealand supports vulnerable children and families.
Her work in the community includes leading the Aotearoa Tongan Response Group, which provided critical humanitarian assistance to Tonga following the 2022 volcanic eruption and tsunami, showcasing her ability to mobilize resources and drive impactful initiatives.
